The Michigan BASS Federation Nation is committed to the youth of our great state. We proudly support several "Casting Kids" events each year. We encourage adult clubs to sponsor youth clubs. Also, we plan and sponsor a Junior State Championship each year.
The first youth club in Michigan was the South Central Michigan Junior Bassmasters. Youth clubs have grown to a total of twelve clubs at this time. Youth clubs represent all parts of our state. We have clubs as far north as Grayling, and as far south as the southern border of the state. We also have representation from the "eastside" and the "Westside."
Beginning in September of 2002, we started conducting State Youth Tournaments. We call this tournament the Junior State Championship. This competition continues to the present time. The tournament will be held on Kent Lake this year. The date for Junior State Championship this year is July 1st.
"Kids Casting" events will be held at each of the major boat shows. The Novi event was a huge success, and we hope both the Lansing and the Grand Rapids will be successful also. Adult clubs throughout Michigan also hold "Casting Kids" events at various functions.
We all realize that young people represent the future of our sport. Each of our adult clubs can help support youth programs. Take a kid fishing, sponsor a "Casting Kids" event, hold a youth tournament, and help under privileged or handicapped children, volunteer at the Junior State Championship. Who knows, maybe one of those children we mentor is the next Kevin VanDam, Rick Clunn, or Larry Nixon just waiting until they are old enough to show the world how good they are!
