State Championship Report 2004
The Michigan BASS Chapter Federation State Championship was a tough one. This year it was held on Lake Charlevoix and connecting waters. Several clubs reported before the tournament that fishing had been really tough for the past couple of weeks. The Salmon had started moving up into the lake. Paul Sacks was the Chairman and Paul Wagner was Co-Chairman for the MBCF. Bass Pro Shop as well as Wonderland Marine West was a sponsor. Several other sponsors contributed towards the event. Bass Pro Shop was a major contributor this year. They provided several thousand dollars worth of Gift Cards as well as money to provide a Barbeque for all 240 people on the first day of the tournament. Bass Pro also brought their 30-foot pontoon boat up for the weekend. That is quite a monster pontoon. Tom Sokolowski is the guy who runs Bass pro Shop in Auburn Hills. He bent over backwards to make this the most successful State Championship ever. Special thanks to all the Bass Pro Shops Volunteers for all their hard work. As you shop the store, please thank them for their support and sponsorship of our Federation. The committee also wishes to thank Doug and Bernadette Phillips for the great job they did. The event went smoothly partly because of their efforts.
There were a total of 99 skunks the first day and a whopping 124 the second day. That was out of about 204 anglers.

I would like to thank all the anglers who attended this year’s Championship. Many have said that this event was one of our best yet.

During the 2004 State Championship several big fish were caught...

Kenny shows off his 6.22 Lunker The picture at the left was big fish the first day of the MBCF State Championship. It weighed a whopping 6.22 pounds. The other picture, was big fish the 2nd day of the MBCF State Championship, it weighed 5.66 pounds. Shayne had 12. 08 pounds the first day with 3 fish, which was enough to put me in 8th place. The second day he only had 2 fish. Together they weighed 10.03 which was enough to put him in second over all with 22.11. Shayne was a boater both days. He is only 26 and fishes the federation tournaments with his father Kenny Cleveland. He should be proud of his Lunkers!!
