Reviewed December’s President’s Meeting minutes.

Motion to accept December’s minutes by Paul Wagner and second by Bill Head.  Motion passed unanimous.

 

Rick Briggs spoke to the Presidents about the “Tips-Up for Troops” 2012 bass tournament for the veteran’s tournament that will be held on June 9, 2012 at Kent Lake.  He is looking for around 40 volunteer boats to take out the veterans for a day of fishing.  Rick left registration forms and donor forms for the Presidents.

 

Paul told the Presidents that the Board voted to award Sharon Leonardi a $100.00 gift card for her years of dedicated service on the Board.  Tony Impellizzeri will fill Sharon’s vacancy.

 

Treasurers’ Report: Jay Berwick

Jay handed out a summarized profit/loss sheet for the President’s and went over the figures with the President’s.  Jay told the Presidents about the scholarships that were handed out at the last meeting. Pres may request figures from report.  Jay also told the Presidents that we will provide $900.00 for expenses per state team member this year for the Northern Divisional.  Jay said that the Northern Divisional team and the State Championship were our biggest expenses every year.  A motion to accept the Treasurers report was made by Tony Impellizzeri and seconded by Mike Kujawski.  The motion passed unanimous.

 

Classic Series Report: Larry Gargus

Larry told the Presidents the Classic Series is all set and flyers are printed or can be downloaded from the website.  The dates are as follows:  June 3, July 22, August 26, & September 23 for the Classic Series Classic.  Larry is also still looking for any sponsors for the up and coming year. (Lakes will be Hubbard- Wixom- Otsego – St. Clair)

There will be a new prize for earlier entries. It will be a drawing for the # 1 blast off  postion.

 

State Championship: Paul Wagner

Paul Wagner will be the Tournament Director of the State Championship held on Lake St. Clair this year.  The date for the event will be August 16, 17, & 18 with the 19th being are bad weather day.  The tentative ramp location for the event will be Metro Beach Metropark.  Paul went over the rule changes for this year.  Some of the highlighted changes are:  minimum boat length will be 18’ with a 150 hp verses the old 16’ rule, applications must be received by date verses the old postmarked day, and waters will be off limits at 4:00pm prior to the scheduled date of the tournament so issues do not arise again as when the event was held on Muskegon.  The allowable tournament waters this year will be from the Blue Water Bridge to the Ambassador Bridge.  Paul told the Presidents the need to go back to their clubs and discuss about whether or not the “Alabama Rig” should be allowed at the State Championship.  Discussion about it was taken from the floor by the Presidents.  Paul Sacks told the Presidents he had concerns about allowing it due to conservation issues and safety issues of having two anglers casting this rig.  The Board vote was tabled until the April meeting as Jarrod Sherwood was headed to the Bassmaster Classic as our Conservation Director as this was one of  the topics on the agenda that was to be discussed.  We will get feedback from him on this to aid in the vote.  A straw poll vote was taken to see how the Presidents felt about allowing/disallowing this rig.  The vote was 10 to allow it and 10 to not allow it.  Paul Wagner also has the Presidents on how they felt about having American waters only for the tournament.  This vote by the Board was also tabled to the April meeting to give the clubs time to discuss this issue.  A motion was made by Bill Head and seconded by Bob Landon to accept the proposed State Championship rule changes.  The vote passed unanimously.  The Board is also looking at having a recycling contest at the State Championship for used plastic baits.  Pres. Sacks would also like to see a club step up and do the canned food drive again at the tournament.

 

 

Membership: Camille Delikta

Camille told the Presidents that we currently have 32 paid clubs totaling over 300 members.  We also have 2 youth clubs totaling 26 members.  Camille also said that clubs need to update their state rosters and send the information to her.  The clubs also need to update their on-line national rosters ASAP.  We had two new clubs join the Federation.  They are the Auburn Bassmasters of Indiana and the Jackson County Bass Assassins.  We welcomed the new clubs to the Federation.

 

Newsletter: Tom Boland

Tom said he is always still looking for articles for future newsletters.  The cut-off date for the next newsletter is at the end of March.  We currently do three newsletters each year. If you have any thing you want in print contact Tom Boland tboland@michiganbass.net .  We will continue to hand out hard copies of the newsletter to the Presidents only to cut down on expenses. All other can view or download on line from our state web site.

 

Youth: Barry Narrin

Barry told the Presidents that he has yet to receive any applications for youth projects this year.  Any clubs that want to apply for a youth project must have their application in before the April board meeting.  We still need clubs to do CastingKids at the Grand Rapids Ultimate Fishing Show.  Barry is looking at holding the CastingKids Championship at the end of April at Bass Pro Shops.  The Junior State Championship will be held on July 8, 2012 on Lake St. Clair out of Metro Beach.  Paul went over the B.A.S.S. youth mentoring program for starting new Jr. Clubs. Also clubs can combine to start share the running of one Jr. Club.

 

Boat Shows: Pres. Sacks

Paul went over the show dates for the up and coming year.  The Federation will pay $50.00 to a club for holding a CastingKids event at the shows.  A minimum of (6) club members must be present to hold the event. We need a club for Grand Rapids show.  Please contact Pres. Sacks ASAP.

 

Sponsorship: Pres. P. Sacks

Paul highlighted the current contracts through Mercury, Triton, & Skeeter.  We also still have the Pure Fishing program for the federation. Federation members can get a 30% discount on product.  Members will be able to purchase up $2500.00 in product.   The code will be changing. (see your club Pres for code). This program will go into effect in March.  New sponsors that came on board are:  Powell Rods, , Boat Boys Pro Gear covers.  Newest sponsors are Simms Clothing , Tungsten Weights 20% discount with special code ( MIBASS) , Jackit baits and Wonderland Marine  West. Tony Impellizzeri will be our new Sponsorship Director.

 

 

Conservation: Jarrod Sherwood

Jarrod will be representing Michigan down at the Bassmaster Classic for the B.A.S.S. conservation summit.  Jarrod went over with agenda that will be discussed at the summit.  Jarrod also asked the Presidents to have more interaction with the M.D.N.R. on various projects to let them know we want to build a strong relationship with them.  We are still reviewing the drawings for the release tube before presenting them to the DNR.

 

**Owner incentive money still available for Triton, Skeeter, and Nitro owners.  Our Triton/Mercury Alliance Program is good thru December 31, 2012.  We still have yet to have anyone contact us for the discount Skeeter Boat deal.

 

**Freeway Sports is once again a Skeeter Boats dealer and may want to come on as a sponsor.

 

**The prizes for 2012 Bassmaster Classic Fantasy Fishing Contest will be the same as this year.  1st will be a Mercury Fury Propeller, 2nd will be a rod, and 3rd will be a 1-year State Membership. Members must be signed up by 6:00pm on the day before the start of the Classic.

 

**The next meeting will be on April 22 at Bass Pro Shops.  We moved the April meeting out farther to allow late clubs joining to attend at least one meeting.

 

**We are now allowed to sell Mercury Products to our clubs but not to the general public.  The oil prices increased by $5.00 per case.  The pricing will be as follows:  Optimax oil will be $65.00/case, Premium Plus will be $55.00/case and single bottles for Optimax will be $27.00 each and $22.00 each for Premium plus. 

 

**Paul went over the Texas Hold’em monies we had made and also discussed the future dates of the events that will be held.  We still need help in these events.  Anyone interested should contact Paul Sacks.

 

**Our two sizes of B.A.S.S. Federation patches are now available. Contact Pres. Sacks for your club orders.

 

**Paul Sacks presented a Federation t-shirt if clubs were interested.  The cost would $17.50 for a long sleeve and $14.50 for a short sleeve.

 

The 50/50 raffle was $241.00 with $120.00 to the winner Bill Head.

Motion to accept April’s minutes by Bill Head and second by Dan Miller.   Motion passed unanimous.

 

Treasurers’ Report: Jay Berwick

Jay handed out a summarized profit/loss sheet for the President’s and went over the figures with the President’s.  Jay told the President’s that a total five scholarships were awarded from the nine that had applied.  The scholarships were awarded to Nicole Berwick ($350.00), Emily Head ($350.00), Allison Berwick ($350.00), Troy Brouwer ($600.00), & Diana Hoeksema ($350.00).  The Scholarship committee was made of Paul Sacks, Sharon Leonardi, Gary Emerson, Bob Landon, & Mike Kujawski.  The Bass Chasers of Shiawassee donated $50.00 and the Michigan Bass Busters donated $250.00 to the Scholarship fund.  A motion was made to accept the Treasurers’ report by Mike Dawson and seconded by Doug Radcliff.  The motion passed unanimously. Pres Sacks will be meeting with our scholarship fund manager to see if we can obtain a  return on the funds.

 

Classic Series Report: Larry Gargus

Larry told the Presidents the new dates for the Classic Series for 2012.  He said the entry flyers should be ready by the first show we will be attending (Ultimate Fishing Show in Novi).  The new dates are as follows:  June 3, July 22, August 26, & September 23 for the Classic Series Classic.  Larry is also still looking for any sponsors for the up and coming year. ( Lakes will be Hubbard- Wixom- Otsego – St. Clair)

 

State Championship: Paul Sacks

Paul told the Presidents that the 2012 State Championship will be held on Lake St. Clair this year.  The date for the event will be August 16, 17, & 18 with the 18th being are bad weather day.  The ramp location for the event is yet to be determined.  The Selfridge DNR launch site or Metro Beach Metropark could be possible launch sites.  The Board is possibly looking at holding the 2013 State Championship up in Escanaba before or after the Divisional to on team expenses. The new 2012 State Championship entry fee will $125.00.

 

 

Membership: Sharon Leonardi

Sharon told the Presidents that club rosters are due today.  If anyone needs to contact B.A.S.S. direct for membership issues, they should contact Deb Wilkinson at telephone #205-313-0907 for her direct line.  We are in need of more Junior clubs to be formed.  June 1st  is the cut-off date for final rosters to be turned in for their members to be eligible to fish the 2012 State Championship.  Late fees are now in effect for 2011 club members.

 

Newsletter: Tom Boland

Tom told the Presidents they can pick up their copy of the new newsletter.  Tom said he is always still looking for articles for future newsletters.  We currently do three newsletters each year. If you have any thing you want in print contact Tom Boland tboland@michiganbass.net

 

Youth: Barry Narrin

Barry told the Presidents that he has yet to receive any applications for youth projects this year.  Any clubs that want to apply for a youth project must have their application in before the April Presidents Meeting.  We still need clubs to do all CastingKids for all of the fishing/boating shows this year.  Barry is still looking for a location to hold the Casting for Kids State Championship.  The Junior State Championship will be held on July 8, 2012 on Lake St. Clair.  He still investigating on if we can possibly hold the banquet the day before at Bass Pro Shops in Auburn Hills, MI as we did in the previous year.

Several 2011 Michigan State Divisional Team members were at the meeting.  They fished in Iowa and Tom Kiefer will represent the state of Michigan at the Federation Nation Championship. They spoke of the great time at the tournament and thank our Federation for the experience.

Treasurers’ Report: Jay Berwick

Lake Nepessing member Tom Kennis donated the money he won in the 50/50 raffle to funding for future youth projects.  Jay handed out a summarized profit/ loss sheet for the 2011 fiscal year and went over those figures with the Presidents.  A motion to accept the Treasurers report was made by Roger Chris and seconded by Paul Wagner.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

Scholarship Report:  Jay Berwick

Jay told the Presidents that we currently have 9 applicants for scholarships.  We will be awarding 5 scholarships. The applicants were from the following clubs:  (3) Michigan Bass Busters, (2) Glacier Lakes, (2) Avid Bass Anglers, (1) Macatawa Basss, & (1) from Anglers Unlimited.  This( 2011) years Scholarship committee will be made up of Ken Chu, Camille Delikta, Gary Emerson, and Sharon Leonardi and Pres. Sacks.

 

Classic Series Report: Larry Gargus

Larry told the Presidents of the 2012 Classic Series dates.  They will be as follows:  June 3, 2012, July 15, 2012, August 19, 2012, & the Classic Series Classic will be September 16, 2012.  The lakes we will fish are yet to still be determined.  Larry also told the Presidents that he hopes to have the lakes chosen by the December Presidents meeting.  We had (14) Early Bird applications for the 2011 Classic Series and the winner for the free entry next year will be the team of Jerry Doucette and Mike Webber.  Larry said that in 2012 there will be all new lakes that we haven’t fished in past years.

State Championship: Sharon Leonardi

Sharon informed the Presidents that the proposed July date for the State Championship was more realistic that the alternate August date.  A roll call vote was taken to help the Board decide on next years State Championship as to whether to keep in up in the North or hold the tournament in the South part of the state.  The vote was as follows:  12 votes to keep in the south part of the state and 10 votes to keep in the north part of the state.  July 26-29 will be the date that the State Championship will be held on in 2012.  The location of the lake we will fish will be announced at the December Presidents meeting.  The entry fee for the 2012 State Championship will be raised to $125.00 from $100.00 .  Paul Wagner went over some of the changes to the rules for next years State Championship as per the sheet packet that was handed out. NOTE: The dates for Championship have changed since these minutes were recorded. See Our web site or call you Club Pres. for changes.

 

 

Membership: Sharon Leonardi

Sharon told the Presidents that rosters and payment are due at the December Presidents meeting.  A Minimum of (6) members must be assigned to make a club eligible.  A $5.00 late fee will be imposed for all returning members who have not resigned up by the December Presidents meeting.  National Rosters will be reset in November.  The current Michigan Bass Federation Nation membership is 579 members including our Junior members.

 

 

Newsletter: Tom Boland

Tom told the Presidents that he currently has no new articles for the next newsletter.  The cut-off date for the next newsletter will be November 10, 2011.  Tom also told the Presidents we are going to send out future newsletters electronically to help save money for the Federation.  Future hard copies of the newsletter will be sent out to the Presidents only.   

 

Youth: Barry Narrin

Barry handed out youth project forms to the Presidents.  Glacier Lakes told the Presidents about their youth project they held in 2011.  Lake Nepessing also discussed their youth project they did in the past year.  Barry informed the Presidents that he has enough Casting for Kids contest kits for the up and coming year.  We are in need of clubs to work Casting for Kids events at the 2012 show season and the Federation will pay each $50.00 per day/per event for whoever will work the shows with a minimum of 6 members present at the event.  Barry told the Presidents that he would like to hold next years Junior State Championship on Lake St. Clair once again.  Checks were handed out to the clubs that did youth projects in 2011, they were:  $150.00 to Glacier Lakes, and $200.00 to Lake Nepessing. Clubs that start a new Jr. Club

Can still receive start up funding. (The Junior State Championship is set for Lake St. Clair on July 8,2012.)

 

Boat Shows: Pres. Sacks

Next years boat shows will be as follows:  1-12-12 thru 1-15-12 Ultimate fishing show will be at Novi, 2-23 thru 2-26 Outdoorama will be at Novi, and 3-15 thru 3-18 Ultimate Fishing show will be at Grand Rapids.  Paul also told the Presidents that K.V.D. will only be at the Novi show on 1-13-12 in Novi.

Conservation: Mark Brentmeyer

Sacks told the presidents that (4) Board positions will be up this year.  We will be looking for nominations to fill these vacancies.  The (4) members whose terms will be up are:  Tom Boland, Sharon Leonardi, Tony Impellizzeri, and Camille Delikta.  The nominations for the next term were as follows:  nominate Sharon Leonardi, Camille Delikta, Jason Hurst and Bob Landon.  All ran unopposed and were elected.

**Dues for the next year were voted upon by the membership and will remain at $25.00.  A motion was made by Paul Wagner and seconded by Barry Narrin.  The vote passed unanimously.
